Paul Sherwood

Dr. Paul Sherwood trained at Leeds University and qualified in 1991. His House Officer posts were with the Professorial Surgical Unit at Leeds General Infirmary, and the Professorial Medical Unit at St. James’s Hospital, Leeds.

His Senior House Officer training took place at the George Eliot Hospital, Nuneaton, during which he became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians in 1994. His Registrar training was at Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham, Derby City General Hospital, Derbyshire Royal Infirmary, Nottingham City Hospital and the Kingsmill Hospital, Mansfield.

He was awarded an M.D. in 2001 for research into Helicobacter pylori treatment, and published several research papers and book chapters on dyspepsia, Helicobacter treatment, liver function testing and colorectal cancer treatment.

He became a Consultant Physician and Gastroenterologist at Northampton General Hospital in 2001, where he has introduced several new practices including championing the successful ward-based teams initiative. He began private practice at the BMI Three Shires Hospital in 2002.

He trains medical students and junior doctors at Northampton General Hospital, and is Lead Clinician for hepatitis treatment. He sees patients with all types of gastroenterology and liver diseases, and performs a wide range of endoscopy procedures. He has a special interest in reflux disease, dyspepsia, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease and liver diseases.

He is a member of the British Society of Gastroenterology, Royal College of Physicians & the Medical and Dental Defence Union of Scotland.

He sees insured and self-funding private patients at the Three Shires Hospital. He charges within the Fee Assured limits for all insurance companies.
